colour theory

colours are pretty

primary colours: red blue and yellow
secondary colours: green orange and purple

The primary colours are red, blue and yellow.

The secondary colours are green, orange purple.

Complementary colours are opposite another on the colour wheel. For example purple is complementary to yellow, orange is complementary to blue and green is complementary to red. When any of these pairings are used they bring attention and excitement to a composition.

Monochrome colour is used to describe when only one colour is used in a composition. For example only red is used with different tints of white and shades of black. This is used to achieve a certain mood or feeling.

Analogous colours lie on the same side of the colour wheel. For example red, orange and yellow sit together and would be described as 'analogous' because when they are placed together they create a unified warm feeling.
